About Augusta
The Augusta Site began as an extension of the Fort Benning site in the summer of 2000. An ad in the Augusta Chronicle that read “EARN YOUR MASTER’S DEGREE IN ONE YEAR” was the first visible sign that the site existed. The contact information in the ad was actually the home number of our first Site Director. The first students filled out applications in the parking lot of the Belair Business Park, the site of our first classroom. Only one program, Master of Science in Educational Leadership, was offered. Our first building had one office and two classrooms. Classes often had to be held in the clubhouse of a nearby subdivision.
From those humble beginnings, the site grew rapidly reaching an enrollment of approximately 500 by the fall of 2001. In July of 2002, we moved into our current site at the Augusta Corporate Centre, a state of the art facility with 14 classrooms and 24 offices. In addition, in 2003, we opened an office in the Education Center at Fort Gordon. The staff has grown from five in 2000 to our current staff of 30 that includes 10 full time professors. The enrollments have continued to grow and are approaching 2000 per term. The Augusta Site serves the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) of eastern Georgia and western South Carolina as well as the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines stationed at Fort Gordon.
